Christmas day 2012 was the one year anniversary that Sofie had her accident and became a Tripawd. It has been a year of learning and trying to keep her doing the activities she used to do. Unfortunately she won’t do a lot of things she used to do and she sticks to me even more than what she did before. Sofie is still afraid of the ice, she remembers slipping and the car sliding and she was hurt. She won’t go outside without me if there is ice, so I have to put her sling under her and help her out I guess she is more confident that way. Yesterday was the first time that she played in the snow since her accident and she really enjoyed herself. I hope one day she will have the confidence to be able to do all the activities she used to do.

Pictures of Sofie
Sofie is finally pain free!!! It has been 2 weeks since I gave her the last of the medicine. She is getting back to herself which I am happy to see. She is becoming her funloving carefree self and she is starting to play with my sisters’ dog.
HELP, I have a question
Sofie has been having some sort of pain in her stump. It makes her cry out in pain and it happens when she is laying down especially at night, it happens every 2-3 hours. I rub her leg and it helps it, it almost seems like a cramp. Could it be a cramp or is it phantom pains, or could her back be out of place??? Sometimes her other hind leg wants to give out on her as well. Could this be stitches pulling, 2 days before the stitches were to be taken out, she fell and broke them open so I had to take her in and he put in more stitches then the vet also did a mattress stitch could that be the problem, could that be pulling somehow and giving her the pain. It just makes me sick that I don’t know how to help her anymore than massaging her leg.
Sofie pooped and peed all by herself today, I’m so proud. The snow has hit central Illiniois, more blowing than anything. Sofie loves it, she’s even running in it.
Sofie had a bad day, she seemed a little depressed today (which is understandable). I just feel so bad for her. On the upside, today is Sofies’ Birthday!!!!! She is 18 months old, yaaaayyyy!!!
update
I took Sofie to the vet this morning and he put more stitches in and was able to wrap it with elasticon and tape. Then he wrapped her other foot as well, its torn open between the toes and one of the toenails was digging into the wound once in awhile when she stood up making her cry in pain. He was able to put some padding between the two so hopefully that will help. He gave her more previcox and antibiotic to help with the pain. My mom is making her a sling so we can put her stump in it so if she looses her balance there will be some cusioning for her. Now my only problem is getting her to take her pills, she is just too smart. I was putting them in a hot dog she caught on to that, then it was a pork chop, that was a one time thing. Then I put the pill in a dumpling (chicken and dumplings), and last night it was mashed potatoes and hambuger. I have more of that left so I’m going to try that again. Hopefully she will have a good day and night tonight.
My first blog
Hi, I’m Stacy and I’m new to Tripawds. My 17 month old English Mastiff was hit by my brother-in-law on Christmas day 2011. I took her to the vet and he amputated above the ankle joint. I brought her home that day, she was home a couple of days and I noticed that her bone had broke through. I took her back to the vet and he took more off, up to the stifle, she seems to be getting along fine with that. Her other back foot was hurt as well and its bandaged so she is having a bit of difficulty walking since its painful for her. She is on perivcox for 5 days to help with the dull pain she is feeling and it does seem to be helping. I think this is harder for me to accept than it is Sofie because I feel so helpless and not know what to do for her. We go back to the vet tomorrow because she fell and hit her “stump” and broke the stitches, hopefully its just on the outside since the stitches have been in for 7 days.
